f is filled with fun January 27, 2008

Life is filled with fun when Kate’s home. Parties and games and sporting events and shopping and restaurants and family visits and friends. I’m happily exhausted. We went to see Illinois play Northwestern tonight and yesterday evening enjoyed ice cream sundaes and board games with friends. We played a new game taught by Kate called “Mixed Messages” a combination of pictionary and telephone. Hysterically funny! And we learned the right way to play Last Word, and it was really fun. Is Khalahari a dessert? Is Nahum an author? Does William Faulner begin with “n?”

Thomas is under the weather, but nothing serious. He begins rehearsals this week for Willy Wonka. Also this week we have Brandon for an overnight, dinner out with Windsor Road girls, small group, WW parent meeting and more. Chris leaves for St. Louis for a rotary weekend on Friday and then Kate is off to Ukraine on Sunday. I hope the week goes slowly!

n is for new car January 16, 2008

It has arrived and it is cute and smells good and is fun to drive and comfy.  I like it.

Today was a good creative day at work, productive and fun.  I like collaboration and making forward progress.  Hanging out with Kate and friends at Panera today was fun too.

Chris’ school lost power and was on “lockdown” for a while today and he played his last game of dodgeball, his latest PE rotation.  Ahh, modern education.

f is for family time January 14, 2008

As I like to tell my husband, all the chicks are in the nest.  Kate is home and it’s fun.  So I don’t really need to report, do I?  We are enjoying our time together.  Today that included lunching and shopping and a movie called “Juno” and a trip to Walmart.  It was fun.  I’m not used to this much activity!!  I had the day off to go to Missouri to get our car, but due to a mix of circumstances, John went instead.  So tonight, he is at my brother’s house and I am home with the kids.  I miss him but enjoy their company.

b is for back in action January 8, 2008

After a blissful two weeks of holiday and vacation, we are back in full swing.  Hard.  But the excitement is that Kate will be home in four days!  And so we press on.

We enjoyed a delightful Christmas weekend with John’s family and mine.  And although it was untraditional in many ways, we didn’t mind because it helped us with missing you – know – who! We left on Christmas day and drove all the way to Orlando where we embarked on ten days of fabulous fun with fabulous friends.  Highlights:  food, waverunning, movies, shopping (including the brand new IKEA), the beach, sunshine, warm weather, going buck wild on new year’s eve, a visit to Sea World (except the whole worshipping Shamu thing was pretty unsettling), and plenty of time to visit and enjoy each other’s company.

Now back to work, back to school, back to life, and no one seems to energetic about any of it.  Hard to transfer out of vacation mode, I guess.

Here’s some news.  We sold our van and our new car is ready for pick up.  Just have to figure out how to get to Missouri to get it.  And did I mention, Kate comes home on Saturday!!
